Mallorca: Podemos says cancer patient, 73, evicted

On Mallorca, a 73-year-old pensioner with cancer and a woman with a disability are among people evicted from the Son Fortesa area of Palma, Podemos says. The party made the case public on 26 October, accusing Palma City Council of moving homeless people around the city instead of addressing why they have nowhere to live.

Podemos councillor Lucía Muñoz says the two people need a decent place to live. The party argues that evicting vulnerable people without securing housing for them simply moves their hardship elsewhere in Palma.

Podemos also accuses the council of putting the city’s image and property and tourism interests ahead of people who live there. It wants a housing alternative for those affected by the eviction.
