More than 150 former senators across Spain are set to receive final payments of about €3,000 to €4,758 after parliament’s dissolution. The bureau of the Senate’s Permanent Deputation in Madrid, Spain, has approved the payments, according to minutes seen by Europa Press and reported on 21 October 2026. They go to senators elected at the last general election who are not members of the Permanent Deputation.

How the payments add up

The final payment covers their pay for October up to the day before parliament was dissolved, plus a proportional share of December’s extra payment. Every senator has a basic monthly salary of €3,417.54, paid 14 times a year. All their pay is subject to ordinary tax withholding and taxation.

Without extra allowances, a former senator from Madrid will receive about €3,089; one from outside Madrid will receive about €3,271. Committee chairs, spokespeople and others with additional allowances could receive approximately €4,176 to €4,758.

Who remains a senator

The 73 members of the Senate’s Permanent Deputation retain their status as senators. They comprise five bureau members, 32 full members and 36 substitutes. The Senate has also approved other routine administrative matters, but no meeting of the Permanent Deputation is currently planned.
