Mallorca’s Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Palma has a broken rehabilitation exoskeleton: a working group is seeking volunteers to fix it. The Balearic Department of Economy, Finance and Innovation reported the appeal on 1 October.

A patient who uses the US-made device asked the Bit Foundation for help, with support from her medical team. Repair through the manufacturer would be exceptionally difficult and expensive because of problems distributing this technology to Europe and other circumstances beyond the hospital’s control, the department said.

The foundation brought together a working group through CentreBit Menorca, where the patient had benefited from digital manufacturing activities. Since July, members including Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Palma-Inca and Fundations.org (Makers Mallorca) have taken initial steps to repair the device. They are seeking volunteers with skills in 3D printing, engineering, robotics, parts design, prototyping or technical advice.
