Mallorca: Guardia Civil officers seize 6,600 expired pyrotechnic items, mostly marine flares, from a farm in Llucmajor. They inspect the property on Tuesday and find the flares and other nautical items stored without controls or safety measures.

The Guardia Civil says all 6,600 items are in poor condition after exposure to the weather. Officers secure them as a precaution ahead of their destruction at Tirme’s Energy Recovery Plant in Son Reus. They also draw up a report alleging a storage offence against the suspected offender.

The Guardia Civil’s Arms and Explosives Unit is still investigating where the material came from. The force warns that storing or handling such items is dangerous, especially when they are damaged. It says they should go to an authorised collection point, not be abandoned or put in bins, to avoid risks to people and the environment.
