Ibiza eye surgery wait falls from 183.6 to 76.4 days
In Ibiza and Formentera, patients now wait an average of 76.4 days for eye surgery, down from 183.6 days. The Ibiza and Formentera Health Area reported the figures on 28 October 2026, after carrying out more operations and seeing more patients in outpatient appointments during the first ten months of the year.
More operations, fewer people waiting
The eye service carried out 724 operations, up from 603 in the same period of 2025. The health area says the extra operations and a gradual expansion of the service helped cut the surgical waiting list from 434 people to 289.
The longest waits have also fallen sharply. Nine people have now been waiting more than 180 days, compared with 244 before. The average wait is down by 58.4 per cent.
More appointments and a new specialist
Outpatient appointments rose from 4,907 in the first ten months of 2025 to 5,648 in the same period this year, an increase of 15 per cent.
The health area has also hired an ophthalmologist specialising in oculoplastics, the part of eye care concerned with the eyelids, tear ducts and eye socket.
