Mallorca boat dealer’s jail term upheld over fake contract
A boat dealer in Mallorca faces two years and three months in prison: a court in Palma, Mallorca, has upheld his conviction over a fake sale contract and emptied bank accounts. The Balearic Islands Provincial Court rejected his appeal, Europa Press reported on 4 November 2026.
The self-employed dealer bought a boat in January 2021 without registering it or paying the tax due. Months later, he sold it and gave the buyer a forged contract to help with the registration paperwork.
When mechanical problems emerged, the buyer sued the dealer and the company named on the contract. A handwriting examination established that the contract was forged, and the buyer dropped the claim against the company.
The dealer also emptied his bank accounts and sold several possessions and vehicles to avoid a court-ordered seizure of 25,000 euros. The court upheld his convictions for forging a commercial document and unlawfully shielding assets from creditors, along with fines and compensation totalling 17,500 euros. It did not find firm proof that he had deceived the buyer in the original sale.
The ruling is not final. The dealer can appeal to Spain’s Supreme Court.
