A man tries to force his way into a warehouse in Palma, Mallorca, and police find nearly 6,000 fake garments inside, mainly football shirts, tracksuits and kits. Officers called to a possible break-in hear him say he rents the warehouse but cannot find his key. The Spanish National Police report on Tuesday, 3 November, that they have arrested him on suspicion of an intellectual property offence.

Inside, officers find hundreds of fake items from different football clubs and national teams. At an estimated €20 per shirt, the goods would be worth more than €120,000, police say.

Investigators believe the man supplied local sellers of counterfeit goods. They suspect he was part of a network that imported high-quality copies made in China, gathered them in Catalonia and distributed them across Spain. Police say the copies could have fooled buyers. Comparable genuine products would have a market value of more than half a million euros.
