Mallorca fake millionaire case: €12,500 cash claim
Mallorca: A €12,500 cash payment is at the centre of a case against a man accused of posing as an Olympic champion and heir to a fortune. He faces a pre-trial hearing at the Provincial Court in Palma, Mallorca, on Thursday, 29 October, at 10.00. Prosecutors accuse him of defrauding several people.
Cash, card charges and a bicycle
Prosecutors say the man met a woman at a leisure venue in December 2023. He told her his mother had recently died and that he was due to inherit millions, but his accounts in Monaco were frozen. She gave him €12,500 in cash.
On a trip they took together to Dubai, he allegedly made several charges to her credit card. She also lent him a bicycle worth €3,500, which prosecutors say he never returned.
A bicycle deal and two Rolex watches
In another encounter in 2023, the man met someone through an app for arranging padel games. Claiming to be a top athlete with major bicycle sponsors, he offered to get him a bicycle below the market price. The man paid €1,680 but, prosecutors say, received neither the bicycle nor his money back.
In January 2024, the accused allegedly told a woman in a Palma bar that watch brands sponsored him as an elite athlete. She gave him €4,200 for two Rolex watches he said he could buy below the market price. Prosecutors are seeking four years in prison for fraud and document forgery, as well as compensation for those affected.
