70 cycle 10km through Marratxí on family ride

Around 70 people cycled 10km through Marratxí on Sunday, bringing the town’s European Mobility Week to a close. Children aged six and over joined their families for the ride, which began and ended on Ricardo Anckermann Street. Marratxí Local Police and Civil Protection officers accompanied the group.

The riders gathered that morning in Sa Vinya de Son Verí park before setting off at 11am along the municipality’s network of cycle lanes. The family ride was the final event in four days of activities under the banner “Mobility for all”.

Marratxí Town Hall also staged a health walk on Friday from Martí Serra Health Centre to Plaça Bartomeu Riera, where participants took part in guided exercises. Around 30 people practised key road rules on bikes at the Local Police road-safety park that day.

Saturday’s family games day at Es Figueral Sports Centre included a play area, bowling, giant chess and a giant game of goose. Miquel Ramis, who leads road-safety education for Marratxí Local Police, said the cycle ride was designed to show families the town’s cycle-lane network while helping them ride safely.

Mayor Jaume Llompart said the activities should become part of everyday habits and offer safe ways for people of different ages to get around Marratxí.
