Charities across the Balearics can apply for a share of a €600,000 family support fund announced by the Balearic Government in Palma on 19 September. The money is aimed chiefly at services that work directly with families raising children who are not yet adults and face vulnerability, hardship or social risk. It will also back organisations helping young people facing social or economic vulnerability or exclusion.

Funding for families and child protection

One funding strand offers up to €200,000 for projects supporting families with dependent children in difficult or at-risk situations. A second strand has €150,000 for preventing and tackling violence against children and young people.

That strand also covers awareness work and support for adults who suffered abuse in childhood. A third strand will fund social-sector organisations working with young people experiencing social or economic exclusion.

Full payment in advance

Any money left unused in one strand can be transferred to the others. Successful organisations will receive their full approved amount upfront and will not have to provide a guarantee first.

The Government says the arrangement is designed to make the process easier for non-profits, which often lack the funds to pay for the work before receiving support.
