Mallorca farms: 750,000 euros ease diesel costs

Mallorca farms can claim 0.10 euros for every litre of agricultural diesel bought between 1 March and 30 June 2026. The Balearic Government has put 750,000 euros into the scheme, which also covers the other Balearic Islands. The call was published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands on Tuesday.

The money targets the sharp fuel-price rise linked to the Middle East crisis. Agriculture minister Joan Simonet said the payment would help protect farms’ profitability. He said producers in the Balearics already face high production costs, particularly because of the islands’ location.

Applications open online on Wednesday through the Balearic Islands’ electronic platform and close on 2 October. Farmers, companies and groups must run a holding listed in the regional farm register. They must also have priority status or have received compensation payments for mountain areas or areas with specific constraints in 2025 or 2026.

Applicants must submit invoices showing the fuel type and litres delivered. Cases can be decided as soon as the required paperwork reaches the register, but no further grants will be awarded if the 750,000 euros runs out before the deadline.

The support can be combined with temporary state aid for agricultural diesel and other grants for the same purpose. Total payments cannot exceed 70% of the exceptional costs. The scheme still needs the European Commission to rule that it is compatible with the internal market; the Balearic Agricultural and Fisheries Guarantee Fund has already notified the Commission.
