Mallorca farm fire out after Saturday flare-up
A farm fire at cattle sheds in Santa Maria del Camí, Mallorca, has been declared out on Monday, 7 September, after flames returned hours after it was first brought under control. Fire crews are still inspecting the large site for any fresh ignitions.
The blaze began in the early hours of Saturday and was contained that morning. But it flared up again in the afternoon, sending firefighters back to bring it under control for a second time.
The Balearic Institute of Nature, known as Ibanat, left the site at 20.00 on Saturday. Two firefighters from the Inca fire station then took turns keeping watch through the night.
Crews continued checking and cooling the ground on Sunday because of the size of the affected area. A final inspection on Monday morning led firefighters to declare the blaze extinguished.
