Mallorca farmers in line for share of €17m aid advance
Mallorca’s farmers and livestock keepers are among those due a share of an estimated €17 million in early aid payments across the Balearic Islands by 30 November. The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food says the money is an advance on direct farming aid under the Common Agricultural Policy, paid out by the Spanish Agricultural Guarantee Fund. It is meant to help producers cover autumn sowing costs.
The European Commission has allowed up to 75% of the direct aid to be paid early. The change follows the conflict in the Middle East, which has affected energy and fertiliser prices.
Across Spain, the guarantee fund has transferred €2,417 million to the country’s autonomous communities. Farmers and livestock keepers have received more than €1,850 million so far. Advance payments continue until the end of November.
