Boat accident off s’Estanyol, Mallorca, leaves man dead
A 69-year-old man died after a tender carrying six members of the same family capsized off s’Estanyol, Llucmajor, Mallorca, on Tuesday, 18 August. The boat accident happened at about 13:30, roughly 100 metres from the shore.
The circumstances behind the capsize are not yet known. The man drowned, according to the SAMU 061 emergency medical service and Spain’s Civil Guard.
A vessel from the local nautical club rescued those aboard and took them to the harbour. Emergency crews attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man but were unable to save him.
SAMU 061 treated two other people at the scene. Neither required hospital treatment.
Spain’s Civil Guard has opened an investigation into the accident. Llucmajor Local Police also took part in the response.
