Five Vox senators owe their seats to agreements with Spain’s People’s Party (PP). Now PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo is seeking a deal with Vox to reach a three-fifths majority in the Senate, he said in Madrid on Tuesday, 20 October. His party already holds an absolute majority there on its own.

The five Vox senators were appointed by regional parliaments in areas where the two parties govern together, Feijóo said. He sees room for another agreement, but called for “respect and discretion” in the talks.

Feijóo said it would be a mistake to let what he called “Sanchismo” gain direct or indirect control of the Senate. He pledged to work towards the three-fifths majority, but did not say what a new arrangement with Vox would involve.
