Madrid, Spain: Alberto Núñez Feijóo wants Vox’s help to turn his People’s Party’s existing Senate majority into a three-fifths majority. The People’s Party (PP) leader confirms on Tuesday that the parties are talking about Spain’s upper house. He says the PP already holds an absolute majority there on its own.

The talks follow a decision by the Socialist Party (PSOE), Frente Amplio and regional left-wing parties to run together for the Senate. They hope to stop a split left-wing vote from giving the PP another absolute majority.

Feijóo points to an earlier way the parties have worked together: five Vox senators gained their seats through agreements in regional parliaments where the PP and Vox govern together. Speaking to Cope radio, he says he will continue the talks with respect and discretion. No new deal has been announced.

Vox leader Santiago Abascal says his party remains willing to reach an understanding with the PP, but has not set out how it would work.
