King Felipe VI chairs Poblet board after 15 years
King Felipe VI sits down with Balearic president Marga Prohens at the Royal Monastery of Poblet in Vimbodí i Poblet, Tarragona, on Thursday, 15 October 2026. The monastery’s governing board is meeting for the first time in 15 years. The meeting begins at about 11.10am.
Catalan president Salvador Illa, Culture Minister Ernest Urtasun, Valencian president Juanfran Pérez Llorca and Aragonese president Jorge Azcón also attend. They are joined by Poblet’s abbot, Rafael Barruè, the Spanish government’s delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, and several local mayors.
The board oversees the monastery’s management and upkeep. It last met in 2011, with Artur Mas in the chair. This meeting also falls on the 35th anniversary of Poblet’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
