Alejandra Ferrer skips Formentera’s 2027 primary

Alejandra Ferrer will not stand in the primary to lead Gent per Formentera into the May 2027 elections. The former president of the Formentera Island Council told the party’s assembly of her decision on 26 September.

In a letter to party members, Ferrer said she was bringing a personal and political chapter to a close. She nevertheless voiced full confidence and enthusiasm for Gent per Formentera’s project, saying the group was needed to ensure the island keeps its own voice and a political project rooted in Formentera and committed to its future.

The assembly paid tribute to Ferrer’s 16 years at the forefront of politics. Colleagues praised the ability, courage and determination she showed while leading the Island Council through periods they described as very difficult, both socially and personally.
