Mallorca’s 60th Festa des Vermar ends with Prohens visit

The 60th Festa des Vermar ends in Binissalem, Mallorca, on Sunday, with Balearic government president Marga Prohens visiting alongside the town’s mayor, Joan Víctor Martí. Prohens calls it one of the Balearic Islands’ most deeply rooted celebrations and says it helps define the people who live there.

Martí once told her the festival is “always the same, but never the same”. Prohens says the streets are decorated and tables are brought outside each year, while new generations experience the celebration as their parents and grandparents did. She describes Binissalem as a place of stone, tradition, vineyards and wine. The festival has grown without losing what makes it distinctive, she says, pointing to the work that goes into new outfits made for the occasion.
