More than 40 stalls fill Menorca food fair this weekend

More than 40 exhibitors are bringing Menorca-made food to the Fira Arrels fair at the Es Mercadal fairground on Saturday 19 September. The ninth edition brings together cheese, cured meats, oil, honey, beer, wine, salt, preserves, fish and sweets. Entry is free.

The fair stays open until 21:00 on Saturday, then returns on Sunday from 10:30 to 14:00.

Cooking, tastings and music

Nine live cookery sessions with Menorcan chefs and producers are on the programme, alongside tastings, the Foodies Awards and an appearance by 2026 Young Menorcan Chef Gabriel Pons.

The Island Council of Menorca will also present Cuinons, its new magazine of Menorcan recipes. On Sunday, the fair will honour Menorcan entrants in different editions of the World Food Gift Challenge. Sis de Ponent, Fet a Mar, Entonats, Orquestra Huracán, Aires des Barranc d'Algendar and Delorean are also due to perform, while children can take part in games and workshops.

Fuel-price support pledged

Marga Prohens said a new agricultural law, drawn up with the sector, would be presented soon. She also pointed to €4.6 million over the next three years to promote local products.

A further €6.6 million in direct aid is planned for the primary sector because of the effects of the war in the Middle East. Prohens said the government stood with producers who have announced protests over rising fuel prices, saying higher costs hit both their work and the final price of products.
