Mallorca first-home buyers under 36 could pay no regional taxes on their purchase: Balearic president Marga Prohens wants to scrap the charges. She announced the plan on Tuesday in the Balearic Parliament in Palma, Mallorca. Party groups take the floor there from 09.00 on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, before Prohens responds.

More housing plans draw criticism

Prohens also wants to change the law so money from the Sustainable Tourism Tax can go towards housing. She announced two housing developments for healthcare workers and teachers on the Pityusic Islands, and a pilot scheme for older people facing housing exclusion.

Left-wing parties say her housing record has failed. Socialist politician Rosario Sánchez criticised the tourism tax proposal, saying Prohens was bringing back a measure she had previously scrapped.

Vox wants the age limit removed

Vox welcomed the proposed tax waiver for first-home buyers but wants it extended beyond the under-36s. Its parliamentary spokeswoman, Manuela Cañadas, also said many of the government’s measures had passed with Vox’s votes.

Each party group has up to 30 minutes to speak on Wednesday. Prohens then gets a chance to reply.
