Mallorca first-rent deposit help among 60 youth ideas
Mallorca’s young renters could get help with their first deposit under a proposal to make public guarantees available. It is one of 60 ideas submitted on 15 October 2026 by New Generations of Mallorca, the island’s People’s Party youth wing, for a youth plan the Council of Mallorca is drawing up. The proposals also cover jobs and mental health.
Help with a first home
The group wants an advice office where young people can ask about housing support and how to find a home. It also proposes financial help for young families with children, and support for councils to cut some municipal costs linked to a first home purchase for people under 30.
Mireia Martínez, who leads the group, says young people want to move out, find good jobs and build their lives on Mallorca. Living independently should not be a luxury, she argues.
Jobs, wellbeing and life on the island
On mental health, the proposals call for earlier detection of problems, local psychological support points and workshops on emotional wellbeing and addiction prevention.
For work, the group wants stronger links between young people and Mallorca businesses, more support for starting a business, and a network to help young professionals who have built careers elsewhere return to the island. Other ideas cover access to culture, sport and leisure across Mallorca’s municipalities, volunteering and better mobility.
Llorenç Galmés, president of the Council of Mallorca and the island’s People’s Party, welcomed the group’s contribution. He said young people should take part in decisions about Mallorca’s future, not simply be heard.
