Spain pays €2.4m more in diesel aid to fishing boats
Spain pays another €2.4 million in diesel aid covering 424 fishing boats: the money helps with fuel prices pushed up by the war in the Middle East. The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food reported the payment on 19 October.
Of the new payment, €1.74 million goes to 75 owners of 115 boats fishing in international waters. Another €680,000 goes to 280 owners of 309 boats working in Spanish and European Union waters, after the ministry considered objections to their applications.
This is the second payment in the scheme. In August, €3.2 million went to owners of 4,034 boats. The government has now awarded €5.6 million for diesel used by the fleet between 22 March and 30 April.
More aid is due for fuel used from 1 May to 30 June. A list published on 9 October names almost 4,500 owners of more than 4,800 boats who are set to receive €9.9 million in total. Spain’s Council of Ministers added €15 million to the scheme’s funding on 29 September and extended it to 31 December 2026.
