Flight compensation: ChatGPT and Claude check claims

60% of passengers entitled to flight compensation in the European Union never make a claim. Travellers can now use ChatGPT or Claude to check whether a long delay, a last-minute cancellation or denied boarding could qualify. AirHelp announced the addition of its compensation checker to the two AI chat tools from Madrid, Spain, on 29 September 2026.

What the check does

AirHelp built the tool with Alpic. It identifies the flight, checks what happened against flight records and looks at the rules for the route and airline. It then estimates how much the traveller might be able to claim.

AirHelp says it wants to answer questions before someone files a formal claim. The company points to Microsoft figures showing that 45.1% of working-age people in Spain already use generative AI tools.

Why claims go unmade

AirHelp says only 29% of users in Spain report receiving information from their airline after a flight disruption. It also says airlines initially rejected 58% of claims in 2026, up from 52% in 2025. Most people affected do not challenge that first refusal.

The new check offers a way to look into a possible claim before filing one. It does not turn an estimate into a guaranteed payout.
