Palma airport records 60.5% punctuality in summer
Palma airport recorded a punctuality rate of just 60.5% between 1 June and 31 August 2026. AirHelp published the figures on Tuesday, 15 September, placing Mallorca’s main airport at the bottom of Spain’s airports handling more than 400 flights a month.
Reus recorded 65.7%, while Eivissa reached 65.8%. AirHelp linked the weaker figures at all three airports to heavy tourist demand.
Palma trails Spain’s best-performing airports
El Hierro in the Canary Islands led the ranking with an 87.5% punctuality rate. Asturias followed on 86.6%, with Santiago de Compostela on 82.9%.
Spain’s two busiest airports sat between those results and Palma. Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas recorded 75.3%, while Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat reached 70%.
Delays and cancellations carry a price
Across Spain, 26.6% of flights faced a disruption through a delay or cancellation during the same summer period. More than 49.2 million passengers departed from the country’s airports, putting Spain ahead of the United Kingdom’s 45 million and Italy’s more than 39 million passengers.
AirHelp estimates that about 561,000 people departing from Spanish airports may be eligible to seek compensation under European passenger-rights rules. It also puts travellers’ wider financial burden at 502.3 million euros.
That estimate includes average extra spending of 340 euros per passenger after delays of more than two hours or cancellations announced more than 30 days in advance. Those situations do not qualify for compensation, but can still leave travellers paying for accommodation, alternative transport or lost bookings.
