Mallorca: PSIB says 4,000 students lose mental support
More than 4,000 vocational students in Mallorca have started the new school year without the Flip-Up emotional support service, PSIB says. On Tuesday, the socialist party called on the Consell de Mallorca to bring the programme back immediately, blaming an administrative error. The scheme was designed for young people in vocational training.
PSIB councillor Joan Méndez called the situation unacceptable and demanded answers from the Consell de Mallorca’s Youth department and the Balearic Government. He said the PP and Vox administration must account for the gap between its promises and what has happened.
The Consell had presented Flip-Up as a programme with guaranteed continuity for the 2026-2027 school year, according to PSIB. In its first year, it ran more than 400 workshops for 4,000 pupils at 30 educational centres across Mallorca, with 213 young people asking for emotional help.
PSIB also said the Consell had announced more than 131,000 euros to keep the service running this school year. A practical guide for teachers and families was also being prepared.
Méndez said Antoni Fuster, the councillor for the Presidency, had described Flip-Up as a key tool to help young people recognise emotions and deal with stress and anxiety. PSIB now wants the programme restored and a public explanation of why it was halted.
