Mallorca flood alert stays after Ibiza’s record October

Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, still has 11 storm incidents open on 20 October 2026, and its flood alert remains in force. Across the islands, emergency crews are dealing with 36 of the 388 incidents reported to the 112 emergency number since Saturday. Ibiza has 23 cases still open; Formentera has two.

Ibiza’s wettest October in 75 years

Ibiza and Formentera have recorded their wettest October in the 75-year record. At the Es Codolar weather station on Ibiza, rainfall reached 193 litres per square metre. Heavy rain and thunderstorms also hit Mallorca overnight and in the morning, with some bursts exceeding 40 litres per hour.

The open incidents mostly involve flooded businesses and roads, fallen trees and debris in public spaces. On Formentera, emergency teams are removing water and mud from flooded areas. Ibiza’s airport road stayed passable because crews cleared the water in time, according to Pablo Gárriz, head of the Balearic emergency service.

Weather warnings end, but alerts remain

Spain’s state weather agency, Aemet, has ended its yellow weather warnings for Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Civil protection is keeping a yellow alert for rain and storms across the Balearic Islands because the rain has saturated the ground and the catchments of some watercourses.

The flood response plan remains at operating level 2 on Ibiza and Formentera, but has dropped to level 0 on Mallorca. Aemet still has a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms on Menorca until 18:00, with up to 30 litres per square metre possible in an hour.

Gárriz expects conditions on Ibiza and Formentera to improve in the coming hours. Watercourses are still being monitored; none in the Balearic Islands is currently overflowing or at capacity.
