The messages, sent through the ES-Alert emergency warning system, tell people to stay away from streams, drainage channels and areas that could flood. They also say to avoid low-lying places and basements, and to move to a higher floor if water enters a building. Balearic government president Marga Prohens asks residents to follow emergency service instructions and avoid unnecessary journeys.

It is the second such alert for Ibiza and Formentera. The first came on Sunday at 11.20, warning of an imminent flood risk. Mallorca also received an ES-Alert at 19.00 on Sunday over forecast heavy rain.
