Ibiza floods: two planned stormwater tanks still missing

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Flooded streets in Ibiza Town, Ibiza, bring two missing stormwater tanks back into focus. On 20 October 2026, the local Socialist Party (PSOE) says neither planned tank has been built. It accuses mayor Rafa Triguero of doing too little to prevent flooding since the severe storm of 2025.

The party says Triguero has had a study since the previous council term that identifies and ranks work to improve drainage. It proposed tanks at the Can Misses and Figueretes roundabouts. Neither has been built, and the council has dropped the Can Misses project, according to the PSOE.

The party also says municipal workers were called in during the heavy rain, then told they could go home when they arrived. It wants the council to explain which measures from the study have been carried out, when further work is planned and how municipal services were organised during the storm.
