Mallorca flu jabs open to all as minister urges uptake
On Mallorca, flu jabs are now open to everyone at primary care health centres. Balearic Islands health minister Manuela García urged people to get vaccinated on 28 October, after the campaign opened to the general public on 19 October. It began on 5 October in schools and in homes for older people and people with disabilities.
Who is especially urged to get a jab
The Balearic Islands health department particularly recommends vaccination for people over 60, pregnant women, people with chronic illnesses and smokers. It also names children aged six months to 11 years, including those in the second stage of pre-school who did not get vaccinated at school. Women who have given birth but were not vaccinated during pregnancy are also in that group.
The recommendation extends to people who could pass flu to those at risk, including health and social care staff, carers and people living with them. Teachers, firefighters, security and civil protection staff are also urged to get a jab, as are workers whose jobs bring them into direct contact with birds or pigs.
More vaccines bought for this campaign
The health department has bought 289,090 flu vaccines for this campaign, along with 15,500 vaccines against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). It hopes to exceed the vaccination rates reached in the previous campaign.
In the 2025–2026 season, 219,096 people across the Balearic Islands received a flu jab, up 31,302 on the year before. Mallorca accounted for 180,451 of them, Ibiza and Formentera for 21,995, and Menorca for 16,650.
