Foreign-registered car towed in Playa de Palma
Palma police removed a foreign-registered car from Playa de Palma and took it to the municipal depot on 20 August after identifying several traffic offences. Officers said the vehicle appeared to have remained in the same location for an extended period.
A check through the European Car and Driving Licence Information System found an earlier traffic report recorded on 13 January. Police said the car was also thought likely to have exceeded the permitted period for driving in Spain on foreign plates.
Officers made enquiries at a nearby garage, where staff initially said they did not know where the car had come from. The manager later said it was awaiting repairs at the business.
Police told him that the vehicle would be immobilised and removed under the applicable rules. He objected to the action and tried to get into the car, but officers stopped him so the removal could proceed.
The garage manager was unable to provide proof of valid compulsory motor insurance or official documents identifying the vehicle's holder, police said. He repeatedly offered to pay the penalties on the spot to prevent the municipal towing service from taking the car.
A man known to the manager also arrived and attempted to film the officers after demanding an explanation. Police warned him about the legal consequences of any improper or unauthorised use of the footage.
The car was ultimately taken to the municipal depot. Officers explained the procedures and documents the lawful owner will need to provide to recover it.
