Formentera boat rescue: migrant taken to hospital

A migrant is in hospital after reaching Formentera in a boat carrying nine people of Maghrebi origin. The boat was rescued at 03.10 on Wednesday. The person had an illness at an advanced stage, according to the Government Delegation.

The rescue was one of three boat arrivals on the Balearic coast on Wednesday, involving 52 people in total. At 00.11, authorities intercepted 16 people of Maghrebi origin on the PM-820 in Sant Ferran de ses Roques, Formentera.

At 04.55, authorities intercepted 27 people of sub-Saharan origin 12 miles south-east of Cabrera.

On Tuesday, six boats carrying 83 people reached the Balearic coast. The last of those arrivals was recorded at 23.50, when authorities intercepted 11 people of Maghrebi origin on the PM-820 in Playa de Migjorn, Formentera.
