167,714 passengers: Formentera buses trail 2025
Formentera’s public buses carried 167,714 passengers between January and July 2026, below the 194,850 recorded in the same months of 2025. The total still exceeded 2024’s 156,210 passengers, the Consell de Formentera said. In 2019, the service recorded 99,257 travellers.
More kilometres on the road
Buses covered 237,902 kilometres in service by July, compared with 221,363 over the same period last year. The Consell de Formentera said it aims to strengthen public transport as an alternative to private cars.
The council had issued 2,454 new transport cards by 14 September. They recorded 65,620 validations and 28,743 journeys. The Consell described the card as part of its move to modernise the service.
Survey and vehicle permits
The Consell will survey people who live on Formentera all year about formentera.eco, the island’s system for regulating access, traffic and parking. Visitors are also being asked this year whether they know the system. The survey will appear on the Consell’s transparency portal and will include views on vehicle saturation on the island.
By 15 September, formentera.eco had processed 46,669 authorisation applications this year. It accepted 39,880, rejected 5,202 and listed 1,587 as awaiting documents.
Accepted applications included 11,244 from Formentera residents and 7,916 for visitors’ cars. The system also accepted 6,066 car permits and 1,181 motorcycle permits for Ibiza residents, plus 2,286 for island-based companies and 1,846 for firms with a workplace on Formentera or involved in goods transport.
It also accepted permits for 619 electric visitor cars, 2,254 hybrid cars and 20 electric motorcycles.
