Formentera fire: police move couple from gas danger

An 86-year-old man tackles a fire in an attached garage in Formentera with a garden hose while his 80-year-old wife remains inside the house. Guardia Civil officers move the couple to safety after finding several butane gas cylinders in the garage. The fire is reported at 20.30 on 9 September and threatens to spread to the home.

The officers find the man in the garden, directly exposed to the flames. The cylinders in the garage add to the danger.

The couple initially refuse to leave despite the fire's proximity. Officers then evacuate them to a safe area away from the property.

A Local Police patrol, an ambulance and firefighters later join the response. Two fire engines and a pickup fitted with a fire pump tackle the blaze.
