Formentera vote 2027: two deadlines for foreign residents
Formentera’s foreign residents face two deadlines if they want to vote in the May 2027 local elections. The island council, the Consell de Formentera, says eligible voters need to complete the right steps to get onto the electoral register. Those steps do not apply to the general election on 29 November.
EU residents must declare their wish to vote
Residents from European Union countries can vote in the local elections if they are over 18, registered as living on Formentera and have declared that they want to vote in Spain. That declaration must be made by 30 December to count for the 2027 election.
They can complete the process online through Spain’s National Statistics Institute, by post, or with a CERE.DFA form at the Consell’s offices.
Other eligible residents have a separate window
Residents from countries with voting agreements with Spain can also apply to join the register. These include Bolivia, Cape Verde, Colombia and the United Kingdom. Applicants must be over 18, registered as living on Formentera and legally resident there.
They must also meet a minimum residence period: three years for people from Norway and the United Kingdom, and five years for those from the other countries. Their registration window runs from 1 December to 15 January.
