Formentera, in the Balearic Islands, has received 17,1 million euros from the Balearic government since August 2025. The money supports social services and care for unaccompanied migrant children. Social affairs minister Sandra Fernández gave the figure in the Balearic parliament on 3 November 2026, after MP Llorenç Córdoba asked why care capacity could not be calculated separately for each island council.

Fernández said two decrees set rules for calculating how many children Spain’s autonomous communities can normally take in. The Balearic government has challenged those decrees in court, she said, so it makes no sense to ask for them to be changed now.

She pledged the government’s support for Formentera’s island council, both in raising concerns about the migration crisis and in providing resources. But she ruled out seeking a change to the decrees.
