Formentera pitches stargazing to British travellers
Formentera is taking its night skies and seaside memories to London’s World Travel Market from 3 to 5 November 2026. The island council is pitching to British travellers, whose enquiries accounted for 424 requests at its tourist information offices between May and October.
On Wednesday, the council will present “Memories by the Sea”, a campaign inviting visitors to discover Formentera through the experiences and memories of a stay. It will also promote stargazing under the name “Formentera mira al cielo”. The island has held Starlight Tourist Destination certification since 2023, recognising conditions for observing the sky and its commitment to protecting it from light pollution.
The council will use space shared with the Balearic Tourism Strategy Agency at the London fair. Figures from the Formentera Observatory put British enquiries at 7.5 per cent of the total, making the UK the fifth most common country of origin among people using the offices. Of the British enquiries with information about previous visits, nearly nine in ten came from people discovering Formentera for the first time.
