Formentera teachers keep €400 monthly pay bonus

Teachers taking the hardest-to-fill posts on Formentera will keep a €400 monthly supplement for the 2026-2027 school year. The Balearic Government approved the measure in Palma, Mallorca, on Friday, 18 September. Payments will also rise for teachers on Menorca and Eivissa (Ibiza).

Posts based at schools on Menorca or Eivissa are classed as hard to fill. Formentera posts retain the higher category of very hard to fill.

A post on Menorca or Eivissa can also be moved into that higher category if it is in a hard-to-fill speciality and remains vacant after 14 calendar days in the process for allocating substitute teachers. A speciality is deemed hard to fill when there are no more than five available applicants for each advertised post.

Eivissa currently has 75 specialities in that category, compared with 43 on Menorca and 25 on Formentera.

Higher payments on Menorca and Ibiza

Teachers posted to Menorca will receive €200 a month, up from €100 in the previous school year. The supplement on Eivissa will rise by €100 to €300 a month. The €400 payment on Formentera will remain unchanged.

The Ministry of Education and Universities said the revised payments are intended to help fill vacant teaching posts and keep school teams stable on islands where attracting and retaining staff is harder.

Posts with special working conditions

The Consell de Govern also set out teaching posts for 2026-2027 involving special conditions of danger, hardship or toxicity. They include work with pupils subject to court-ordered detention, children in care or protection programmes, and pupils receiving lessons in hospital or during long periods of recovery at home.

The list covers all posts at IES Can Balo; education centres in the prisons CEPA Amanecer, Aula Eivissa and Aula Maó; the external teaching units Es Puig des Bous and Tramuntana; and the Maria Antònia Pascual School for Hospital and Home Education, including its branches on Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera.
