Mallorca: 26 foster families caring for 42 children meet
Mallorca: 26 foster families caring for 42 children and teenagers meet at a hotel in Can Picafort on Sunday, 25 October, to share experiences and build support networks. The Council of Mallorca brings them together with staff from the Foster Care Service at the Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS).
Some of the families provide temporary care; others offer a permanent home. The gathering includes shared activities, talks and time for families to spend together. IMAS president Guillermo Sánchez says meetings like this give foster families a chance to speak with people in similar situations and support one another.
IMAS currently has 52 families providing temporary care and 38 offering permanent care. It is also running information campaigns to reach more people who might consider fostering. Social services director Apol·lònia Socias says families with different circumstances can help, as long as they can meet a child’s needs.
