Mallorca’s Inca backs redress for three Franco victims
Inca on Mallorca has backed personal recognition and redress for three people who suffered under Franco’s repression. The decision, taken on Friday 11 September, supports applications brought by the families of Antoni Mateu Ferrer, Antoni Bestard Seguí and Gabriel Buades Pons.
The town council will now give institutional support to the processing of their recognition. It says the move formally acknowledges the lives and suffering of the three people targeted by the repression.
The measure follows Spain’s Democratic Memory Law. Memory councillor Alice Weber said councils also have a duty to protect democratic memory, and that recognising people who suffered repression and injustice can symbolically restore their names and dignity while keeping their memory for future generations.
