Mallorca producers sought for 40 free Balearic food tours
Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, is among the places where food producers can apply to host visits on 40 free tours planned for 2027. Applications close on 22 November. The Balearic Islands Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment said on Saturday, 31 October, that it is seeking 40 farms and food businesses across the islands.
What the tours will offer
The tours aim to show residents where island food comes from, how it is made and who produces it. Each route will visit at least two producers, with 15 to 35 people in a group. Transport and support staff are included, and each stop will last between an hour and an hour and a half.
The tours are intended mainly for associations, non-profit organisations and other resident groups. They may also open to the general public where that fits the programme’s aims. Hosts can explain their work, offer tastings and sell food directly where the rules allow.
Producers apply first
Farms, food businesses, producer groups and cooperatives working in the Balearic Islands can apply if they make products legally classed as local. They must have suitable space for groups and meet visitor safety, food safety and liability requirements. Each selected host will receive at least one visit.
Eight places are reserved for Menorca, five for Eivissa and three for Formentera, with further places reserved for particular types of production. The department will agree the tour schedule with the selected hosts. It will organise participation by visitor groups only after the hosts have been chosen.
