Mallorca free public transport: bill to make it permanent

Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, could get a permanent guarantee of free public transport under a bill Unidas Podemos files in the Balearic Parliament on 7 October 2026. The proposal covers the rest of the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands too. Its aim is to stop free travel depending on political will.
Unidas Podemos MP José María García says the guarantee is a matter of equality. He made the case after a meeting of parliamentary spokespeople.
The bill is not law yet. The Balearic Parliament must approve it before Spain’s Congress of Deputies can ratify it.
