Palma starts 22 free tours of traditional shops

Palma will start 22 free guided tours of traditional shops on 29 September, taking in businesses on the city’s emblematic establishments list. PalmaActiva is running the walks in Spanish and Catalan until April. The programme follows two routes: one from Plaça d’Espanya to Cort, the other from Cort to Passeig del Born.

The tours look at Palma’s traditional trade, former occupations and the stories tied to the businesses. Palma City Council’s commerce councillor, Lupe Ferrer, said the scheme also recognises the people who have kept the shops going.

Two walks through Palma’s shopping history

The Plaça d’Espanya-to-Cort route calls at Bar Cristal, Espardenyeria Llunes, Fajas Reina, Tapicería Vidal, Teixits Es Tren, Panadería S’Estació, Estanc i Loteries Can Homar, Sombrerería Casa Julià, Calçats Neus Palou, Mimbrería Vidal, Rellotgeria Catalana, Carnisseria Cas Caparrot, Calzados Estarellas, Colmado La Montaña, Paraguas and Joyería Piña-Grau.

From Cort to Passeig del Born, the walk includes Café Moderno, Colmado Santo Domingo, Golfos Casual Wear, La Industrial, La Pajarita bombonería, La Pajarita Charcutería, Forn del Sto. Cristo, Forn Fondo, Bar Bosch, Quesada Decoración, Floristería La Rosaleda, Gelateria Can Miquel, Forn de la Pau and Can Martí.

More dates, then a Christmas break

PalmaActiva has added eight routes compared with the first edition, bringing the total to 22. The tours pause in December and January during the Christmas campaign, before returning as the programme runs through April.
