Five join Frente Amplio with Balearic pact in place
In Spain’s Balearic Islands, Izquierda Unida and Sumar have an election pact with Ara Més. Their wider alliance, Frente Amplio, announces five more party partners on Friday 16 October, the day registration closes for election coalitions.
The new partners are Batzarre from Navarra, Iniciativa del Pueblo Andaluz, Somos Asturies, Recortes Cero and Partido Humanista. The first three are regional parties. Former Podemos critics who left the party in Asturias helped set up Somos Asturies.
The Balearic deal is one of several already reached by Izquierda Unida and Sumar. They have also agreed a pact with Chunta Aragonesista in Aragón and are part of a wider election ticket with Podemos and Nueva Canarias in the Canary Islands. Frente Amplio says it will keep negotiating with left-wing parties across the regions before registration closes.
