Fuel aid: hauliers seek 40 cents a litre in Spain
Spain’s hauliers want fuel aid doubled to 40 cents a litre and kept in place until the end of the year. Logistics employers made the demand in Madrid on Friday, 25 September 2026, warning that the conflict in the Middle East is hitting the sector’s costs.
UNO Logística, the logistics employers’ association, raised the request with First Vice-President and Minister for Economy, Trade and Enterprise Carlos Cuerpo and Secretary of State for Trade Amparo López. It met alongside other industry groups, including the Spanish Confederation of Goods Transport (CETM).
UNO president Francisco Aranda said firms need support while the factors behind the price rise continue, so they can plan costs, maintain investment and keep creating jobs.
Vans also targeted for support
UNO wants the 40-cent-a-litre discount to cover vans weighing up to 3,500 kilos. They are currently excluded from the professional diesel scheme and cannot claim the aid.
The association says the vans cover high mileages and are vital for urban deliveries, the last mile and supplies, while carrying the direct burden of higher fuel prices. It has proposed an alternative payment of 500 euros per van.
CETM also called for the fuel discounts to run until 31 December. The group additionally wants employers’ social-security contributions cut by 50%.
