Mallorca ferry fares and building materials may cost more

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

On Mallorca and across the Balearic Islands, rising fuel costs could make ferry journeys and building materials more expensive. Transport, construction and ferry representatives warn the Balearic government at a meeting on Thursday, 15 October 2026, that fuel prices and inflation are driving up their costs. They leave without agreeing on measures to keep those increases from reaching customers.

Rafael Roig, president of the Balearic transport businesses’ federation, expects fuel prices to keep climbing in the coming months. The islands depend on transport by road and sea, he says, and the government needs to look for solutions even where it does not control every decision.

Guillem Rosselló, from the building materials manufacturers’ association Construïm, says higher production costs will feed through to final prices. Trasmapi manager Rafael Cardona also expects fuel bills to affect ferry fares and freight charges.

This is the government’s fourth meeting with business and social representatives about rising prices. Cardona wants subsidies and discounts like those offered during the coronavirus pandemic and after the war in Ukraine began. But many ferry companies use ports under state control, where he says the Balearic government has little room to act. The Balearic Port Authority has not yet replied, he says.
