Mallorca fuel prices: Balearics weigh extra help

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Fuel prices are worrying businesses across the Balearics: in Palma, Mallorca, the regional government is considering extra help as firms fear the effect on their costs and sales. Government spokesman Antoni Costa said on Friday, 16 October 2026, that the move could add to petrol and diesel relief already approved by Spain’s government. Some businesses say that relief is not enough.

Costa spoke after four meetings this week with economic and social representatives and business sectors. He said the Balearic Directorate-General for the Economy had found that the economic impact of the crisis linked to the war in the Middle East had returned after a summer recovery. Inflation reached 5.1% in September, a figure Costa said had not been seen since the war in Ukraine.

The Balearic government is now examining Spain’s decree to see how it could add to the relief. The decree still needs approval from the Permanent Deputation of the Congress of Deputies. Costa gave no details of any further measures, but said the government could not ignore the concerns raised by businesses.
