Ibiza fuel slick puts yellow flag up at es Pouet

A fuel slick is drifting towards es Pouet beach in Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza, after a boat sank a few metres off the coast near sa Punta des Molí. The council has replaced the green flag with a yellow one as a precaution. The vessel was anchored in an unauthorised area.

The wreck lies outside the bathing area and beyond the council’s remit. Wind is pushing the slick towards es Pouet, where it could affect the beach.

Anti-pollution barriers have been placed to contain the fuel and limit any further spill or environmental impact. The boat is due to be refloated and removed on Tuesday morning.

Ports IB, Salvamento Marítimo, Capitanía Marítima and Sant Antoni de Portmany Council are monitoring the situation over the coming hours.
