Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, is part of a region where just 21% of people have funeral insurance. Across Spain, the figure is 44.3%. The figures, measured at the end of 2025, come from the Spanish insurance industry association Unespa.

A wide gap across Spain

Around 21.8 million people across Spain had funeral insurance at the end of 2025. In the province of Cádiz, 75.6% had cover. Only Teruel, at 20%, and Soria, at 20.3%, recorded lower shares than the Balearic Islands.

What the insurance pays for

Funeral insurance mainly pays for the policyholder’s burial. Some insurers also offer psychological support, legal advice or help with a person’s digital affairs after death.

Across Spain, insurers covered nearly 294,000 burials in 2025, accounting for 65.4% of deaths. Cover was most common in households with a couple, no children under 18 and at least one person over 65, at 56.7%.
