Mallorca: Fake players seek images with game currency

In Palma, Mallorca, on Monday, researcher Sandra Sedano warns that people posing as video game players use game currency to ask young people for images. They first gain a young person’s trust, she says. Sedano gives the warning during a talk at the University of the Balearic Islands, where she speaks about recruitment for sexual exploitation.

She names Roblox, Fortnite, Discord and Twitch as places where someone can pose as a player. She also points to dating apps and bogus agencies offering modelling work as possible routes into prostitution or the creation of sexual content.

More than a third of young people in Spain have seen social media posts offering money for sexual content, Sedano says. She says 71% regard such offers as “normal”.
